Mentor Series - Worldwide Photo Treks!

North Carolina  | 2006

"Insider look from outsiders at North Carolina's Cape Fear Coast" Out of towners from everywhere in the States were quite lucky to be taken in charge by their fellow trekkers from North Carolina and by  Chris, Lee, Paige, Bill & Connie from the North Carolina Tourism Board.

This enabled all of us to get a sharp vision of the most beautiful sites of the Cape Fear coast. Before starting our journey, we benefited from the mentoring of Tom Bol & Mark Edward Harris two seasoned and renowned photographers with their very specific styles:

Travel with our mentors and try out all of the latest equipment from Nikon! Including world class digital SLRs, Nikkor lenses and the Coolpix line of Digital Cameras.

Tom, the fearless adventurer preaching "tenacious optimism",  Mark the "close up and personal" individual advocating that  "if you are not your toughest critique, you are your worst enemy". They both showed us exposure, composition , digital workflow and Photoshop tips. They took every opportunity to teach and show us how, in the bus, before entering sites, at dinner , at night: it seems that their energy never died.

Wonderful weather enlightened our visit of historic Wilmington and the Battleship North Carolina where we were free to wander on the decks with WW II soldiers and officers or within the nine decks open to public.

NC Testimonials

Michelle,
We really enjoyed the North Carolina photo trek.  It was exactly the immersive photo experience we were hoping for with a lot of interaction with other photographers.  We'll be back again in the future.

Michelle, I really enjoyed the workshop. Thanks for all of the effort that you made. It was a great few days, and I really learned a great deal.

The Henrietta III river boat experience combined great Photoshop presentation with sunset shots on the Cape fear river, together with good food and good fun. Visits of historic Bellamy Mansion and Thalian Hall enabled to practice interior and exterior architectural shots. The Cape Fear garden club opened its intimate treasures and prepared us for shooting at the Airlie Gardens .
Wrightsville beach was full of surfer and kite surfers photo ops: you needed your long lenses to capture the extravaganza and to close up the fast pace action.

A trip on the North Carolina Ferry at Fort Fisher to Southport and the Orton plantation were the highlight of Sunday. Trekkers were in competition to produce the best shots of the ante bellum mansion and plantation.

Final slide show in the afternoon gave a bird's eye view of the trekkers' talent: wonderful images capturing the beauty of the North Carolina Cape Fear Coast. Thanks Michelle for hosting this great event!
